Transition completes when your child feels safe and secure in their new school environment, so transitioning into school is a process that may take a while.
Transitioning into Prep commences with our partnership with the nearby Kindies and Day Care Centres. Our teachers visit these centres to familiarise themselves with your child and their learning needs.
After that initial contact, a formal transition program commences. Three sessions are provided. (More info -- Prep Transition Brochure Esk SS for dates and times). These sessions endeavour to orientate parents / carers to the school and the prep curriculum, and provide forums to discuss various matters including the social and emotional development of prep aged children. Two of these sessions provide 'prep practise' where the incoming students are provided with opportunities to start learning class routines and get to know their teacher and teacher aide.
Transition Statements
The transition statement is an overview of your child's learning from their kindergarten program, tailored to each individual child, to help them transition smoothly into Prep. Ask your Kindergarten teacher or for more information go to the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority website.
