Our Transition Program
Transition completes when your child feels safe and secure in their new school environment, so transitioning into school is a process that may take a while.
Transitioning into Prep commences with our partnership with the nearby Kindy and Day Care Centres. Our teachers will visit these centres to familiarise themselves with your child and their learning needs. Here at Esk State School we also have three special mornings (usually the first three Thursdays in November) when our incoming preps are mentored by our current preps. This enables familiarisation to their classroom, their teacher and some of the activities that they will be doing here at school. Parents are required on site during these mornings, so there are also sessions for parents to become familiar with Esk State School, the curriculum and also to learn about how to support the social and emotional development of prep aged children.
Help your child transition from Kindy to Prep.
Wondering how to help your child transition from Kindy to Prep? Great news, with your consent, kindergarten teachers will now be able to provide your child's transition statement to their Prep teacher. The transition statement is an overview of your child's learning from their kindergarten program, tailored to each individual child, to help them transition smoothly into Prep. Ask your Kindergarten teacher or for more information go to the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority website.
